Hi and welcome to My Little Expat Kitchen.
I'm Magdalini. I am from Greece, born and bred in Athens, and for the last
I love food and I have a passion for cooking. I love the creativity it entails and the effect it has on people, such as the huge smile appearing on their faces when they taste something I have cooked for them. That's why I started this blog; I wanted to share recipes and stories about (and beyond) food with the world.
Recipes
The recipes featured on my blog range from traditional Greek recipes (naturally), to modern international ones. I enjoy many different types of cuisines and I'd say that variety is what characterizes my blog and recipes. So take a look around, I'm sure you'll find something you'll like, something that will definitely tempt you to get in the kitchen and create something delicious.
Text
Apart from writing this blog in my native language, Greek, I choose to write in English as well, because my goal is to reach as many people as possible and to be able to share and exchange ideas with them. With you!

Your small digital camera is pretty darn good. My small digital camera cannot go anywhere near that close to the dishes. What brand/model do you have?

Hi! I stumbled across your blog via a comment you made on Lottie + Doof. I have been to Athens and the Netherlands and they are two of my favorite places in the world - I cannot wait to read more!
ReplyDeleteBest regards from Minnesota.
Hello. Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteHello Magda. I got here after reading your comment on the corn tacos back in smitten kitchen because I got curious. You see I´m mexican and I love greek food, but I´m not very familiar with it since it is not very popular here in my country. I´m glad I found your blog so I can cook up some favorites of mine :-)
ReplyDeleteHello there! I hope I can help you through my recipes to get familiarized with Greek cooking and grow to love it.
ReplyDeleteGreat blog, the recipes, the photos and writing style. I love it :)
ReplyDeleteThank you F!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog!!! Added to my list of favorites :)
ReplyDeleteI am going to have to start trying some of your recipes. Funnily I am a photographer and have worked with food photography and my pictures look like well...fill in the blank. You have a lovely clean design and great step by step imagery. Keep up the good work. Kim
ReplyDeleteHi Magda,

I love Greek food and would check more your Greek recipes
Hi Magda! I really enjoy reading you blog, especially the snippets, stories and history behind each dish. My boyfriend made me moussaka after having gone to Greece in the summer and it's amazing!
ReplyDeleteDo you have any recommendations on what to do and most importantly, eat in the Hague? :D
I'm going there in April for a mooting competition at the International Criminal Court. I'm a student in the UK haha so be budget friendly!
My email is girlsamm@gmail.com
Thanks!
Hi Magda
ReplyDeleteI'm an expat in Greece, so am enjoying looking at your recipes!
Magda... You must put a photo of yourself.. it just familiarizes you to the readers better:)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the suggestion, Lara. I'm working on it!
DeleteI am an expat from Canada living in the Netherlands and though I am not Greek, our shared love of food in our new home makes me feel connected. Continued success!
ReplyDeleteThank you Donna! :)
DeleteHi Magda! Amazing work you're doing on this blog. Probably the best representation of Greek food I've seen online. Very inspiring, detailed as well as a very fun read. Oh, and the pictures....mouth-watering! Congrats to you! Nathalie/Athens, Greece
ReplyDeleteΓειά σου Ναταλί.
DeleteHi Magda!! I really LOVE your blog!! I am a Greek expat in Qatar and I recently started a facebook page about Greek food... I want people here to learn about Greek food but its very difficult though.. Any ideas are welcoming!
Keep up the good work, λοιπόν!
DeleteHi Magda,
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog this morning and wanted to tell you what a joy it is to read. Your food looks heavenly, your pictures are just beautiful, and you make everything sound so incredibly simple and appetizing! I look forward to reading more and to following your new posts :)
Best
Sophie
Hi Sophie. Thank you so much for your kind words! :)
DeleteYeia sou, Magda!
ReplyDeleteI misunderstood that you are an expat in Amsterdam, not Greece! I'm doing the opposite! I'm a British expat living in Athens. I love this beautiful country and most definitely appreciate the food. So glad to have found your blog!
Hi Helen. Yes, I am Greek and I'm living in The Hague. I hope you're having fun in my hometown. ;)

DeleteHi Magda

Hi Felicity. Thanks for including me in your list!

ReplyDeleteHello from singapore! Love your blog and photos. Thumbs up for the fabuluous and well documented recipes =]
ReplyDeleteDear Magda, I wanted to let you know how much I love your blog. As I am trying to learn Greek, I try to read your posts first in Greek, then in English. It is a truly enjoyable way to practice what I have learned. Your photos are so enticing, I can't wait to try some of your recipes!
ReplyDeleteHi Ren! I'm glad to hear you enjoy my blog. Greek is my native language so I write in a different way than in English. Good luck with your studies!
Deletethank you for the dutch apple tart recipe, my mum was dutch and she made it all the time, she gave me the recipe but its faded and I was struggling to read all the ingredients and the ratios but your recipe is very similar to hers. She made the best tart and I think the dutch have cream with everything!
ReplyDeleteHello there. Thanks for your comment! I love appeltaart, it's delicious. Yes, the Dutch do love their whipped cream :)
DeleteHi Magda I just found your blog via Smitten Kitchen. It is beautiful and the salad looks really appetising, fresh and jewel like, and a real spirit lifter for a cold UK February. Thanks so much Caroline
ReplyDeleteHello Magda, I am so taken with your blog and think you write beautifully. (Only in English for me!) By any chance would you have an easy recipe for Gouvetsi or Youvetsi? I am not sure how to write this. I just love this dish but have never had luck making it.

DeleteHi Magda,
ReplyDeleteGreetings from Delft.
I've been looking to find another international food blogger based in the Netherlands! So happy to finally found one.. Greek food is one of my favourite food! Can't wait to try cooking your recipes!
Olivia.

Hi Olivia! It's nice that you have found me, I always look for other expat blogs in the Netherlands too!
DeleteHi, Magda! so glad to have found your blog! I have just returned from Athens and I must say I loved that city and its food! looking forward to trying your recipes! greetings from a Romanian living in Vienna :)! Zazu.
ReplyDeleteThanks Zazu!
DeleteHi Magda,
ReplyDeleteAs a young (Dutch/French) student (we were allowed to be slow and lazy at that time) I lived in your beautiful country (1969-1973) I try to read your blog in Greek, but unfortunately the lingo isn't what it used to be. I have been searching for a ντολμάδες recipe, but couldn't find it. A recipe for those delicious thingies would be highly appreciated!
I haven't posted my dolmadakia recipe that's why you can't find it. I will try to post it at some point.
DeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI discovered your blog last year and since then it is one of my sources of inspiration for cooking/baking. Thanks a lot for sharing the recipes!
I also admire you for being able to be an Expat in Holland for so long. I spent three years in the same country and it has been literally the worst time of my life so far as the natives (sadly, 95% of them) are the most intolerant and unfriendly people I've ever had to deal with. Maybe Hague is different?
Anyway... good luck with everything and thanks again for revealing us your kitchen mastery!
Best regards,
C.
Hi C. Thanks for following along and glad you like my recipes. It's sad that your experience in Holland wasn't a pleasant one. It's not easy living in a country other than your own and even though the Dutch are veeery different from Greeks, I find they are nice people. Perhaps the Hague is different, I don't know, or maybe I have gotten used to them ;)
DeleteHi neighbour! I am a Turkish expat who lives in Amsterdam just for 7months now. I found your blog and told about it to my lovely Greek friend Julia. So happy to find your blog since we have the similar kitchen I think I will really enjoy your recipes. Thanks for writing...
ReplyDeleteHi there! Thank you so much! Hope you enjoy my recipes, we do have so many similarities in our cuisines. :)
Deletehello Magda, great blog and recipes. I am also an expat, Italian living in A'dam with a Greek boyfriend who is going to be so happy when I will attempt the "gemista" recipe tonight ;-) Keep up the good work ♥
ReplyDeleteHi! Glad to hear your like my blog and recipes. Hope your boyfriend enjoys the gemista.
DeleteHello Magda, just wanted to say how wonderful it is to have found your blog - its quality is astonishing. Among the many pleasures was the food, and I have been looking for an authentic website exactly like this. Congratulations on it, and I'm looking forward to trying many of your delicious-looking recipes. Best wishes
