Cooking in a heat wave i.e. staying sane in the kitchen

These past few days, I feel like I’m melting from the heat. It’s 37°C in The Hague! This is the Netherlands, temperatures like these aren’t suppose to happen here. I can’t believe it, and frankly I can barely stand it.

If you too are battling some type of heat wave where you are, and can’t possibly be in the kitchen for more than half an hour or so, let me remind you, or introduce you if you're new here to some of the easiest summer recipes I’ve posted over the past four and a half years on this little blog of mine that are delicious, foolproof and sometimes overlooked in favor of the shiny new ones I post each week.

Fish, meat, pasta, vegetables, salads, lunch, dinner, dessert, refreshing drinks, for you, for your friends, for your family. If you’re looking for quick, easy and delicious summer cooking inspiration, here it is:

I’ll be back soon, well, as soon as this heat permits, with a new recipe. Till then, stay cool!

  1. I feel your pain! My go to meals when it's that hot is cucumber-yogurt with bread , gazpacho or a simple salad of cucumber, tomato and avocado. stay cool!

  3. Lovely round up of summer delights Magda, I'll be bookmarking this one for summer in Australia xx

  4. Wonderful compilation of recipes - all so fresh and flavorful. I hope your heatwave breaks soon and you can get back to normal temperatures. Right now, I am craving your tyropita pie, and am hoping to make it next weekend (will make the puff pastry on Friday night). Have a good week! xo, David

  5. Living in the sunny and hot Southern United States I perfectly understand staying away from the stove in the summer. Oddly enough though, our July has been unusually cool....just like Dutch weather usually is! I love all your blog recipes you have shared here. Stay cool.

  6. ahu — trying to! Thanks!

sandrine — thank you for your nice comment! Nice to know you are enjoying my blog :)

    M Mulberry — thank you!

David — hahaha I'm laughing because you wrote: tyropita pie. Tyropita means cheese pie so it's like saying: cheese pie pie :) Hope you enjoy my tyropita David.

Teresa — oh the Dutch weather is not what it used to be. It's becoming more and more like Southern Europe!

  7. This all looks stunning! Can imagine the heat, I can't stand it either in the kitchen so I just don't go in, I don't bake, I don't cook, I just make a quick and easy salad and eat a lot of fruits with yoghurt for breakfast. Your photo's make me hungry, especially the first one, wow!
